You’ve probably heard that salmon is one of the healthiest fish you can eat, packed with beneficial omega-3s and other vital nutrients. But what if I told you that today’s farmed salmon is actually one of the most toxic food products on the market? It’s a disturbing truth that every salmon lover needs to know.
In the eye-opening new documentary “Fillet-Oh-Fish”, director Nicolas Daniels takes us on an investigation into the Norwegian fjords that house massive salmon farms. And what they uncovered is absolutely stomach-turning.
Researchers found a staggering 15-meter high layer of waste accumulating on the seafloor beneath the open-water salmon pens. This toxic sludge is made up of a nauseating cocktail of bacteria, drugs, and dangerous pesticides.
“Today’s fisheries are faced with a range of severe problems, from overfishing to chemical pollution and genetic mutation from toxic exposures,” explains Dr. Joseph Mercola. And with these salmon farms situated right in the open ocean, there’s no way to contain all that pollution.
In fact, Norwegian environmental activist Kurt Oddekalv goes so far as to call farmed salmon “one of the most toxic foods in the world.” Yikes!
Biologist Dr. Anne-Lise Birch Monsen from the University of Bergen is so alarmed by the threat that she adamantly advises pregnant women, children, and young people to completely avoid eating farmed salmon. She says the contaminants have been shown to negatively impact brain development and are associated with autism. They can also wreak havoc on the immune system and metabolism.
Disturbingly, studies have found that farmed salmon is a staggering 5 times more toxic than any other food product that’s been tested. And consuming more than just one meal of it per month can dramatically increase your risk of developing cancer in the future. The culprit? The cancer-causing chemicals and high dioxin levels it contains.
Even worse, the inflammation-promoting compounds in farmed salmon are linked to a whole host of serious health issues, from diabetes and arthritis to coronary artery disease and Alzheimer’s.
So how can you keep your family safe? Experts say the only way is to completely avoid farmed salmon and opt for the wild-caught variety instead. Your health – and your life – could depend on it.
As Norwegian activist Kurt Oddekalv puts it, the farming of salmon is “a disaster both for the environment and for human health.” It’s a shocking truth, but one we all need to hear. Share this vital information with your friends and family to help spread awareness about the dangers of farmed salmon.
