Bridgerton continues to dominate the Netflix series catalog. The release of the first half of its third season (which will conclude with the arrival of its last four episodes on June 13) has once again placed this millennial version of the Wikipedia entry on Jane Austen’s work as another irresistible production by Shonda Rhimes.

The creator of Grey’s Anatomy recognized the potential behind the eight romantic novels by Julia Quinn and, with Netflix as the backer and Chris Van Dusen (Rhimes’ co-writer on Scandal) leading the project, they made us fall for this period drama that initially starred Phoebe Dynevor and Regé-Jean Page. The two stars managed to capture the attention of the often distracted hive mind of streaming, sparking all sorts of off-screen romance rumors across social media.

The success extended beyond its second season with the creation of a spin-off, which we’ve already covered when discussing how Queen Charlotte connects with Bridgerton and where it fits into the Netflix series’ timeline. This title kept fans satisfied throughout 2023, at least until the new episodes once again stirred their excitement, making them seek out information on their favorite series about London’s high society during the Regency era.

Bridgerton Season 4: Synopsis

Luke Newton and Nicola Coughlan are the new sensations of Bridgerton on Netflix: “We had to hold back a lot of the chemistry,” the leads of Season 3 shared in an interview. Though they will return in Season 4, their spotlight will shift to two new central characters.

So far, Netflix has adapted the first two books of Quinn’s eight-book series in order: The Duke and I in the first season and The Viscount Who Loved Me in the second. For the third season, they jumped to the fourth novel, Romancing Mr. Bridgerton, leading many to expect that the next season will pick up the skipped third book, An Offer from a Gentleman.

“I can’t say a word, I’d get in big trouble,” says Quinn in an interview with PEOPLE about the next story the series will tackle. If they follow the plot of An Offer from a Gentleman, the story will center on Benedict Bridgerton (Luke Thompson) and Sophie Beckett, the unacknowledged daughter of the Earl of Penwood, whose stepmother and stepsisters made her life a misery. In this Cinderella-like tale, Sophie is never treated as an equal, so it is doubted that she could win the favor of one of the Bridgertons.

Bridgerton Season 4: Cast and Crew

As mentioned, the leads from Season 3 will return, including Penelope Featherington (Nicola Coughlan) and Colin Bridgerton (Luke Newton). However, until the novel adaptation for Season 4 is confirmed, we cannot guarantee the leading romance.

At the moment, it seems likely that Benedict Bridgerton (Luke Thompson) and Sophie Beckett will take center stage.
