AI Outfit Changer: 3 Ways to Change Clothes in a Photo or Video

Change the outfit in a photo with a text prompt, with a picture of the garment, or as a full outfit change video. Which AI outfit changer method fits what you have, with prompts and real results.

AI outfit changer before and after: the same woman in a black top, then in a red top

An AI outfit changer swaps the clothes in a photo and leaves the person alone. There are three ways to do it, and the right one depends on what you are starting with.

  • You can describe the outfit in words: use a text prompt (method 1).
  • You have a photo of the exact item: use virtual try-on (method 2).
  • You want a video that runs through several outfits: make an outfit change video (method 3).

Method 1: Describe the new outfit

Upload one photo and say what should change. This is the fastest way to test a color, try a style you do not own, or put yourself in a costume.

A text-only edit: the black top becomes red. The hairstyle changed as well, which is why the prompts below end by saying what to keep.
Change one item
Change the black turtleneck to a red one. Keep the face, hair, pose, background and lighting exactly the same.
Change the whole outfit
Dress this person in a navy tailored suit, a white shirt and brown leather shoes. Keep the face, hair, body shape, pose and background exactly the same. Natural fabric folds, lighting that matches the original photo.
Costume or theme
Dress this person as a 1970s disco dancer in a sequin jumpsuit and platform shoes. Keep the face, hair, pose and background the same.

The line that matters most is the one about what stays. Without it, the model is free to restyle hair, shift the pose, or tidy the background while it is in there. On FIKKU, both models in the AI image generator can do this. GPT Image 2 is the pick for precise edits where everything else has to stay put, and there are more edit prompts in the GPT Image 2 prompt guide.

Using it as an AI outfit generator

If you do not know what you want to wear yet, describe the occasion instead of the clothes and let the model propose the look.

Run it a few times. Each generation is a different suggestion, and seeing the options on your own photo is more useful than a list of items.

Method 2: Use a photo of the garment

When you want one specific item, a description is not enough. Virtual try-on takes two photos, one of you and one of the garment, and combines them.

Try on a garment
Put the dress from image 2 on the person in image 1. Keep the person’s face, body, pose and background exactly as in image 1. Match the dress’s color, pattern and length to image 2.
  • A flat lay or a clean product shot works best. A photo of someone else wearing the item makes the model separate it from another body first.
  • One garment per pass. Do a top and trousers as two edits.

The full walkthrough, including what try-on still gets wrong, is in the virtual try-on AI guide.

Method 3: Make an outfit change video

A still image shows one look. An outfit change video shows several in one take, which is what fashion feeds reward. The Fan Wipe Fashion Video generator takes one photo of a person and up to four outfit photos, and returns a 15-second vertical video. The shot looks straight down at the model on a rug, and each time a ceiling fan blade crosses the frame, the outfit has changed.

One face photo and four outfit photos in, one video out.
  • Outfit photos can be simple. A flat lay, a hanger shot, a product photo, or a photo of someone wearing it all work. Only the clothing is used.
  • One outfit per photo, in the order you want them to appear.
  • You do not need all four. Empty slots are filled with sample dresses, so you can test the effect with just your own photo.
  • The video has no sound. Add a trending track when you post.

It takes about 4 minutes and costs 30 credits.

Photo tips for all three methods

  • One person, facing the camera, in even light.
  • Arms away from the body. Crossed arms hide the area the new clothes need.
  • Fitted clothes in the original photo. A baggy hoodie hides your shape, so the model has to guess it.

What an AI outfit changer cannot tell you

  • Whether it fits. The result shows the outfit fitting you because that is what it was asked to draw. It says nothing about sizes.
  • Exact logos and prints. Small text and fine patterns come out approximate.
  • How the fabric really moves. Heavy wool and light silk tend to drape more alike than they should.

Treat it as a styling preview. And only change outfits on photos of yourself or of people who are happy to be in the picture.

What it costs

Signing up is free, with no credit card needed. A photo edit costs 2 or 3 credits depending on the model, and an outfit change video costs 30. The cost is shown before you generate, and credit packs are on the credits page.

If you just want to see yourself in something new, start with method 1: one photo and one sentence.
